Top 4 Practical Ways to Have Your Dream Honeymoon
Once you’ve chosen where you want to go for your honeymoon, there are a few things that are essential to making it as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Based on my own experience, these are 4 of the most important steps and things to think about when planning any trip (particularly a honeymoon).
Get the right visa
When it comes to international travel, having the right visa is absolutely essential, otherwise you won’t even be able to get into the country (not really how you want to start your honeymoon…) So how do you get the right visa? How do you find out if you even need a visa where you’re going? There’s a really helpful website that will tell you where you can go with your passport and when and if you need a visa to get there. Click here to check it out!
Once you find out whether or not you need a visa to enter the country, you’ll need to find that specific country’s visa application process and requirements and follow them. Getting a short term visitor’s visa is a pretty simple process for most countries, but it is a necessary one.
Choose the right time to depart
In movies and TV shows, the couple always leaves for their honeymoon as soon as their wedding is finished, but that’s not necessarily how you have to do it. At the end of your wedding day, you’re going to be pretty tired, and that’s okay! Traveling for many hours to get to your honeymoon will also be tiring, so you may want to consider waiting a day or two before departing for your honeymoon.
Before our plans changed because of COVID restrictions, my wife and I were going to spend a couple nights in the Marriott next to the London Eye before flying to Toronto for our honeymoon. That extra day or so was there to give us a chance to rest and recover before making the 9-hour flight over the ocean.
You can take as much or as little time between your reception and honeymoon as you want, but do make sure that you’re aware that you’re going to be tired and it’s okay to take a day to rest before departing.
Consider using a travel agent
If you’re like me and love the logistics and planning side of things, the thought of planning all the little details of your honeymoon travels excites you. But if that’s not your thing, then hiring a travel agent might be the best thing for you. Travel agents are there to help you plan flights, hotels, and activities wherever you want to go. They’ll know the ins and outs of most tourist destinations in the world and will be able to get you exclusive deals and opportunities throughout your trip. They’ll essentially do all the leg work for you while you just tell them where you want to go and what you want to do!
Don’t over-plan your itinerary
As exciting as you are to see all the sights and do all the things in the place you’re going, you won’t have as much time as you think you do (and you’ll probably still be tired for the first few days anyway). You absolutely want to take advantage of all the incredible opportunities that await you in your destination of choice, but don’t underestimate the amount of time you’ll be spending in your hotel room 😉 You want your honeymoon to be relaxing and enjoyable, so keep your daily schedule at a manageable level (another benefit of having a travel agent to help!)
Wow, that was a lot… I hope these tips were helpful for you in figuring out how to make your honeymoon exactly what you’ve been dreaming about! I absolutely love traveling, so if you have any questions that I haven’t already answered, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask; I’d love to talk!
